What makes a man?  Is it the amount of facial hair one has on their face, or the amount of women he surrounds himself with?  None of these things make a man, or makes anyone more of a man.  A man is not what he does or what he identifies himself with.  A man is a reflection of God.  He is not the amount of push ups he can do or the size steak he can eat.  What is a man, and what is a man of God?  All men are created in the likeness of our father in heaven, but a man of God walks in the footsteps of his son.  One who each day is not afraid to admit his failures and wrong doings, but rather submits them to God so that in his weakness the Lord may be strong.  A man of God does not hide emotion but carefully addresses them, yet he is not controlled by them.  Are you a man (Worldly), a Man (Wise), or a Man of God (Worship)?

I realize that it has been a long time since my last post.  I am not sure if anyone actually read this, but oh well.

So in the last two days I have realized that in order to be the best that I can be, I have to be less like me.  Maybe you have thought this before as well.  It has been reinforced that by myself i am nothing, but in Christ I can do all things. but then came the question, how do I be like Christ?  The answer seems simple right, just do the things that Christ did, the ironic part is, it is much simpler than that, and I will explain in a bit.

Give me directions and I will follow,  manual and I will understand.  Give me a recipe and I can make anything, but tell me to simply be is entirely difficult for me.  I like order and direction, give me a path and I will follow it.  I find it almost impossible to do something, if you don’t know what it is that you are supposed to be doing.  So much of my prayers and walk with God have been like this.  ”God, show me the straight and narrow path, and I will follow it.”  I need a direction because without it I am hopeless, helpless, and heartless.  How can I put my heart into something, what I don’t know what it is being put into?

Is that what Christ did?  Again, how do I be like Christ?  What did He do that I should imitate? He submitted to God.  And this is where things get difficult.  He did not follow God’s 3 step plan or specific orders, he simple submitted to Him.  This is what I have been thinking about and trying to accomplish.  I am trying to submit to God, but How?  Where is my “How to Submit to God for Dummies” book?

I feel like I am having to learn to walk all over again.  I am learning to simple be, to rest in the truth that God sees me as his child, his heir, his bride.  I am learning to trust, that even if I mess up or fall into darkness God will still call me his son.  This is what I am learning.

I guess you could say I am turning a new page.  What is written on this page, I don’t know but I can’t wait to find out.

What is a child?  A child is weak, yet courageous, bold, while shy.  A child is kind and humble, full of joy and love.  A child does not seek approval or others but approves of all others.  A child does not consume themselves with fashion, money, or friends. A child is creative and eager to learn and grow.
A child is a beautiful thing, not only is it the combination of two lives into one, but a reflection and creation of God.  What would like be like if we were all like toddlers?  Sure there may be the occasional tears, bullying and gossip, but more often than anything else there would be joy, laughter, and contentment.  A child is happy with a wooden block for hours.  The block, for the child, can represent a house, a plane, an island, an astroid, stepping block, hammer, and so much more.  How can a simple block provide so much joy, entertainment and foster so much creativity?  How ca a block take the form of so many things?
Somewhere along the way we lose our child like joy.  Suddenly the blocks takes the shape of a block and nothing else.  We look at things the way the appear to be, and don’t take the time to see things for what they could be.  When did our joy turn into jealousy, our love into lust, our contentment to comparison?  We are no longer content with our blocks, we look blindly for things to fulfill us when all we need to do is look at what we have with a new perspective.  How do you see your block?
Like a toddler viewing his blocks in many ways, we must view our world in a new way.  It is not filled with things for personal gain and pleasure, but for God’s gain and pleasure.  We need to view the things in our surroundings, or blocks, and find a way to use them to please God.  This is the perspective we need to take, one like a child. This is the change we need to make.
Matthew 18:3 - Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Going home for spring break is an interesting thing.  I am going home, but for the past three years I have been living hundreds of miles away at school.  I have considered my school my home for these past years.  I left my “home” to go home.  While away I found myself missing friends and wanting to return.  Which begs the question, where is my home?
The real truth is that my “Home” is not of this earth.  In fact it is not a tangible place, but a place reserved for me in heaven.  My home is where I invest and am invested in.  If my home is where my heart is, then my heart is with Christ.  But in term of earthly homes, no matter where I go Christ is there.  Again is home is where the heart is and Christ is in my heart, then home is where Christ is.  I am not bound to one place or the next, but open to creating a home anywhere that I am.  I have a foundation that spans further than I could know, and I can build a home on it anywhere I would like.

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
There is someone who will love you not matter what, no matter what you do, no matter which petal you pull last, He Will Love You.  For some this may be a hard truth to grasp, I know it is for me.  I often feel that I have to do something, do the right things, try to prove myself worthy of His love.
If you are pulling the petals of your life, wondering if God loves you, rest in the truth that He does.  If you are seaching for something to fill your hurt, find comfort in his arms.  If you are screaming out, just so someone will notice you, know that he calling you by name.
Every day is a petal, and every day is a chance to be loved.  There are no odds or chances when it comes to the love of God, for every petal that you pull reads…”He Loves Me”

Click Your Heels and Say…

“There’s no place like home.”  I have the wonderful opportunity of coming home for the weekend and spending time with my family and friends.  It is weird to say I am coming home, because I consider my college my home, since I have spent the past three years there.  If anything my home (where my parents live) is a vacation spot or a retreat center.  It is wonderful being able to rest in the confort and love of family, and if you are lucky have a real home cooked meal.  Where ever you home is, enjoy it.  This may seem easy enough, but often we are the shortest and most aggressive with those we know the most.  I encourage you to sit back and simply enjoy those around you.  Tell your mom that you love her, and tell your friends that you miss them.  I know what you are thinking, “I don’t need to say those things, they already know that.”  I assure you, they will greatly appreciate your kind words.  Again, where ever you call home, enjoy it, becasue there is no place like it.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
- Matthew 6:25

I often here the phrase, “but I can’t draw”  This does not makes sense, it fact it is the opposite of sense, it is like non sense. Weird.  Everyone can draw, and even if you are not a “good” drawer, you can still doodle.  Besides a doodle is just a dream on paper.  If you can dream, you can doodle, and if you can doodle, you can draw.  Let your imagination run free, dream big, draw bigger.

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you.

There are few things stronger than a word or love. A word of encouragement is not one of these things, but it sure comes close.
